Susan Lee Lindquist, ForMemRS (June 5, 1949 – October 27, 2016) was an American professor of biology at MIT specializing in molecular biology, particularly the protein folding problem within a family of molecules known as heat-shock proteins, and prions.
Whitehead Member Susan Lindquist was a pioneer in the study of protein folding. She has shown that changes in protein folding can have profound and unexpected influences in fields as wide-ranging as human disease, evolution and nanotechnology.
Sadly, Susan Lindquist, our mentor, professor, advocate, hero and friend has passed away. We will work tirelessly to ensure that the important contributions she made to science and to this world will endure.
