Doug Sahm and Band is the debut solo album of American singer-songwriter Doug Sahm. In 1972, after leaving the Sir Douglas Quintet, Sahm moved to Austin, Texas. He was signed by Jerry Wexler to the newly opened country music division of Atlantic Records, and started the album sessions by October 1972.

In 1973, Jerry Wexler of Atlantic Records bought Sahm's contract from Mercury and produced Doug Sahm And Band, a "supergroup" album featuring Bob Dylan, Dr. John, David Bromberg, and Flaco Jimenez. Sahm and Meyers continued to record for different American labels throughout the 1970's and early 1980's, but without the popularity of the early years.
He released his solo debut as Doug Sahm & Band when he was signed by Atlantic Records in 1973. With help from his friends Flaco Jiménez, Bob Dylan, and Dr. John, Sahm released the album Doug Sahm & Band - Doug Sahm And Band, which included the song "Is Anybody Going to San Antone?"
17 mag 2023 · The mid 60s found Sahm and his bandmates (including Augie Meyers) transformed into a UK styled beat group under the name of The Sir Douglas Quintet after a local record label owner, Huey P. Meaux, decided to cash in on the popularity of The Beatles.
