8 giu 2016 · Field Marshal John Byng, 1st Earl of Strafford, GCB, GCH, PC (I) (1772 – 3 June 1860) was a British Army officer and politician.
Byng entered the Army in 1793 and fought under Colonel Arthur Wellesley (later Duke of Wellington) in Flanders from 1793 until 1795. In 1811, he was promoted to a Brigadier-General and fought in the Peninsular War in battles in Spain and southern France.
