Ward–Belmont College was a women's college located in Nashville, Tennessee. It formed from the merger of the Ward Seminary for Young Ladies and Belmont College for Young Women in 1913. The college was located on the grounds of the Belmont Mansion, the antebellum estate of Adelicia Hayes Franklin Acklen Cheatham .

Belmont University is a private Christian university in Nashville, Tennessee. Descended from Belmont Women's College, founded in 1890 by schoolteachers Ida Hood and Susan Heron, the institution was incorporated in 1951 as Belmont College. [1] With expansion of programs, it became Belmont University in 1991.

When Ward-Belmont opened on September 25, 1913, the new manifestation of the school included a junior college, a preparatory school, a primary school, and a music conservatory. From its inception, Ward-Belmont emphasized that higher education in its ideal form, its “full educational birthright,” ought always to couple secular learning and spiritual development.

25 set 2022 · In 1913, Belmont College (est. 1890) and Ward's Seminary (est. 1865) merged to form Ward-Belmont College, a women's junior college, preparatory school, and music conservatory on Adelicia Acklen's Belle Monte estate. It was the first junior college in the South to receive accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
