Sophie Hedwig of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, was Countess of Nassau-Dietz by marriage to Ernest Casimir I, Count of Nassau-Dietz, and regent of the County of Nassau-Dietz during the absence of her sons between 1632 and 1642.
Biography. Sophia Hedwig was the eldest child of the Duke Julius of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel from his marriage to Hedwig the daughter of Elector Joachim II of Brandenburg. Her parents provided her with a comprehensive and thorough edcudation and started marriage negotiations when she was young.
Sophia Hedwig von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel (1592–1642) As the eldest daughter of the duke of Braunschweig, a granddaughter of Frederik II, and a cousin of Christian IV (these latter two both kings of Denmark), Sophia was raised at the ducal court in Wolfenbüttel.
Sophia was the daughter of Duke Henry Julius of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel (1564-1613) and his second wife Princess Elisabeth of Denmark (1573-1625), the eldest daughter of King Frederick II of Denmark. Sophia took up residence at widow seat , the Countly Castle at Dietz, and managed to minimize damage caused during the Thirty Years' War .
