Jim Alcivar is an American keyboard and synthesizer player and sound engineer. He is most noted for his connection to guitarist Ronnie Montrose and appearing in his bands Montrose and Gamma and on his first solo album Open Fire. His father is composer, arranger and producer Bob Alcivar.
Keyboardist Jim Alcivar was replaced by Mitchell Froom and Gamma 3 was released in 1982. The album reached No. 72 and produced the single "Right the First Time" which reached No. 77 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 10 on Billboard ' s Album Rock Tracks chart.
Seeking to further expand and change their sound, the band also drafted keyboardist Jim Alcivar. The Paper Money rhythm section of drummer Denny Carmassi and bassist Alan Fitzgerald remained. The new quintet line-up of Montrose made their live debut in San Francisco at Winterland Ballroom on April 5, 1975.

Jim: His love of jazz and my love of rock and roll kept us worlds apart until he began arranging vocals for the Fifth Dimension, The Association, and others. That put him into the popular radio world of music which I enjoyed a lot... though I was bent more toward Led Zeppelin, The Who, Pink Floyd, etc.
