The Plagues were founded in 1964 in Lansing, Michigan. Their primary vocalist and songwriter was William Malone. [1] Their original lineup consisted of Malone on lead vocals and bass, Van Decker on lead guitar, James Hosley on rhythm guitar, and Phil Nobach on drums. [1]

But back home in Michigan, Bill's bandmates Van Decker (guitar/keys), Phil Nobach (drums) and Jim “Hoz” Hosley (guitar/bass) joined up with Scott Durbin (and temporarily, Steve Allen) to form The Plain Brown Wrapper.
