5 feb 2019 · For one thing, they were never really a one-off: Samm Culley (vocals, bass, percussion), Ervan Waters (vocals, guitar) and George Bragg (vocals, drums) had already been making music together for some time, with Culley and Waters earning renown in the Maryland/D.C.-area soul group the Diplomats in the 1960s.

Ervan Waters. 2. The basis of the instrumental came out of a live jam we had going at the time. The producer had told us that he wanted it to be as close to feeling live as possible, so that's why we went there. Otherwise there would have been a lot of automation. What happened a lot of times was we used to work on a lot of live shows in clubs.
