Grumpyre is a Single-Element Ethereal Monster with the Shadow Element. It is first available on Cold Island and can be teleported to Ethereal Island once fed to level 15. Grumpyre was added on August 19th, 2013 during Version 1.1.7. It is best obtained by breeding Deedge and a Triple-Element Monster. By default, its breeding time is 1 day and 12 hours long. Grumpyre has a decent Coin production on Cold Island and is comparable to Deedge. Although useful for beginners, it is recommended to get other Monsters with higher Coin production.
Once teleported to Ethereal Island, Grumpyre takes 10 hours to incubate. You can then breed it with any other Monster to get more. Like all Single-Element Ethereals, Grumpyre has excellent Shard production, bested only by other Single-Element Rare and Epic Monsters. Note that Grumpyre has a slightly lower rate than Reebro, Jeeode, and Humbug.

Grumpyre sings "Boom-Shika-la-Shika, boom-Shika-la-Shika" in a harsh whispering voice. It does this repeatedly for its part in the Cold Island song.
On Ethereal Island, it sings "Boom-shika-La, boom-shika-la-la-la-la boom-shika-la, boom-shika-la-la, boom-shika-la, boom-shika-la-la-la-la Boom-shika-la, Boom-shika-la-la."
Grumpyre can be bred using a combination of a Deedge and one Triple-Element Monster. Possible combination(s):
•+ Deedge and Congle
•+ Deedge and Bowgart
•+ Deedge and Spunge
•+ Deedge and Thumpies
There is roughly a 1% chance of breeding this successfully. It is uncertain whether some combinations work better than others. According to statistics, doing 70 attempts gives you a 50% chance of successfully breeding at least one Grumpyre; and doing 690 attempts gives you a 99.9% chance of successfully breeding at least one Grumpyre. Note that a Rare Monster could substitute any of the parents. The only exceptions are Ethereal Breeding Bonanzas.
Every Monster has different things that they like. For every unique object that they like that's placed near the Monster, the Monster's happiness will increase by 25%. Placing more than one of the same liked item near a Monster won't increase its happiness by an additional amount. If there's a Unity Tree on the Island, items don't need to be near the Monster. Below are the things liked by Grumpyre:

The following Monster(s) will increase their happiness by 25% when being placed near Grumpyre or when Grumpyre and a Unity Tree are on the Island. These may or may not also be Grumpyre's likes as well:

Earning Rate and Maximum Income
Earning rate is in Coins per minute or Shards per hour and depends on Happiness % (Likes increase Happiness) and Monster Level. Each Monster also has a maximum amount of income it can hold at a time. Increasing the Monster's Level also increases this limit.
Feeding Monsters
Each Monster needs to be fed four times before it reaches the next level. Increasing the Monster's level increases the shards earned per minute, as well as the maximum shards earned. More info can be found in the Feeding article. Note: With the Ethereal Island update, Grumpyre can be fed up to level 15, at which time it can be placed on Ethereal Island, instead of Gold Island.
