The Army of the Holy War or Holy War Army (Arabic: جيش الجهاد المقدس; Jaysh al-Jihād al-Muqaddas) was a Palestinian Arab irregular force in the 1947–1948 civil war in Mandatory Palestine led by Abd al-Qadir al-Husayni and Hasan Salama.
Beginning in February 1948, Arab militias under Abd al-Qadir al-Husayni blockaded the corridor from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, preventing essential supplies from reaching the Jewish population.
Similarly, the nationalist militia formed in the Jerusalem area at the start of that revolt by ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Husayni, nephew of Hajj Amin al-Husayni, the mufti of Jerusalem, went by the name of “holy jihad” (al-jihad al-muqaddas).
