Fates Worse than Death are disturbingly common in Saya no Uta. The protagonist, Fuminori, is unable to see the world as anything other than a mess of infected-looking flesh and so finds himself trying to figure out a painless way to die before meeting the eponymous Saya.
What's the meaning of the phrase 'A fate worse than death'? Any misfortune that would make life unlivable, especially rape or loss of virginity. The phrase was formerly a euphemism for rape.
