Peter Kater è uno dei più prolifici solisti al pianoforte, e anche uno dei più tenui e rilassati. Nato a Monaco nel 1959, cresciuto nel New Jersey e giunto a Boulder, Colorado, nel 1977, esordì con Spirit, un classico del genere impressionista/ambientale.

At the age of seven, not long after moving to New Jersey, his mother insisted that he take classical piano lessons. At the age of 18 Peter left New Jersey with his backpack and his music books and hitch-hiked all around the continental US for over a year.
