Wendy Smith (born 31 May 1963) is an English musician. She was a singer and guitarist in the band Prefab Sprout from 1983 until 2001. In 2015, she became the director of creative learning at The Sage in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, England.

Formed in 1978 by brothers Paddy and Martin McAloon and joined by vocalist, guitarist and keyboard player Wendy Smith in 1982, they released their debut album Swoon to critical acclaim in 1984.
Tim Burgess invited Wendy Smith, ex Prefab Sprout, to join him on stage for a performance of Goodbye Lucille #1, and the result was a magical reminder of former Steve McQueen glory days.

After reading English at Newcastle, minister's son Paddy McAloon formed Prefab Sprout with his girlfriend Wendy ("Smithy") and his bass-playing younger brother Martin. The trio produced a flood of extraordinary songs that drew on sources as diverse as The Beatles, Steely Dan and George Gershwin.
