For 97 years, our liberal arts curriculum has been preparing students for lives of significance and purpose. Part of our mission is to live in a community that values each of its members. This enables students to better understand themselves and the world around them.
The aim of Portsmouth Abbey School is to help young men and women grow in knowledge and grace. As a Benedictine boarding and day school committed to excellence, we embrace the Catholic faith while nurturing reverence for God and the human person, love of learning, and commitment to community life.
Portsmouth Abbey School is a coeducational Catholic, Benedictine boarding and day school for students in grades 9 to 12. Founded in 1926 by the English Benedictines, the school is located on a 525-acre campus in Portsmouth, along Rhode Island's Narragansett Bay.
At the core of the mission of Portsmouth Abbey School is the desire to "grow in knowledge and grace" in a life dedicated to Christ. In light of this basic apostleship, the spiritual life of the school is inspired by the Benedictine ideal of a community life of work and prayer (" ora et labora ").
