Smoky is a 1966 American Western film, directed by George Sherman and starring Fess Parker, Diana Hyland, Katy Jurado and Hoyt Axton. The third of three film adaptations of the 1926 novel Smoky the Cowhorse by Will James, it utilizes the screenplay from the 1946 film .

Overview. A cowboy named Clint bonds with a beautiful wild stallion that he trains, but after the two are separated and the horse ends up in a rodeo, Clint is determined to set it free.
Synopsis. Clint, a lone cowboy, aids in rounding up a pack of wild horses and bringing them in to the Rocking R ranch. The ranch owner, Julie, employs Clint as a wrangler, and he sets about breaking in the pack's leader, a beautiful stallion given the name Smoky.
A cowboy becomes attached to a beautiful wild stallion who he has trained for his personal use. He loses the horse who becomes used in rodeos and is abused.
