Our History. ‘Pervincet Vivida Virtus’. The building now known as Copthorne Preparatory School was originally built as a private dwelling called Emsworth House, and was owned by the Kensington Family. Mr Edward Kensington was a wealthy advertising agent who retired to Copthorne in 1888.

Copthorne Preparatory School is an independent prep day and boarding school for boys and girls (50%/50%) between the ages of 2 and 13 years. Boarding from Year 3 for the 10% of pupils who board. All are weekly or flexi boarders. It is a Church of England school, open to all faiths and none.
Copthorne is a flourishing IAPS Prep School with approximately 260 boys and girls aged from 2 to 13. Children are prepared for independent school scholarships or common entrance. In the last 5 years Copthorne children have been awarded 48 scholarships or awards to a variety of Senior Schools.
