Biografia. La madre, Anne Churchill, duchessa di Sunderland, era figlia di John Churchill, I duca di Marlborough e di sua moglie Sarah Churchill, duchessa di Marlborough. Alla morte del padre, avvenuta nel 1722, Robert ereditò la contea di Sunderland e divenne pari del regno; tuttavia nel 1729 si spense, senza una discendenza.

Lady Anne Churchill (1683-1716) was the daughter of John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough and Sarah Jenyns. She married Charles Spencer, 3rd Earl of Sunderland, son of Robert Spencer, 2nd Earl of Sunderland and Lady Anne Digby, on 2 January 1699/0.
