Aaron Freeman (born March 17, 1970), better known by his stage name Gene Ween, is an American singer, guitarist and a founding member of the experimental alternative rock group Ween. Freeman, along with childhood friend Mickey Melchiondo ( Dean Ween ), started the group in the mid-1980s.

Early Life and Family [edit | edit source] Both of Gener's parents were born and raised in Philadelphia, and Gener himself grew up outside of Philadelphia until age 13. He then moved with his parents and sister to New Hope around the same time as Deaner did.

Aaron Freeman lived his professional life as Gene Ween, one half of Ween, the unclassifiable cult rock & roll legends from New Hope, Pennsylvania (the other half was Mickey Melchiondo, aka Dean Ween). When he entered recovery in 2012, he decided to leave Ween in order to preserve his sobriety.
