Myron of Eleutherae (480–440 BC) (Ancient Greek: Μύρων, Myrōn) was an Athenian sculptor from the mid-5th century BC. He was born in Eleutherae on the borders of Boeotia and Attica. According to Natural History, a Latin encyclopedia by Pliny the Elder (AD 23 – 79), a scholar in Ancient Rome, Ageladas of Argos was his teacher.
Myron (en grec ancien Μύρων / Múrôn), né à Éleuthères en Attique, dans la première moitié du V e siècle av. J.-C., est l'un des plus célèbres sculpteurs grecs, bronzier [1]. Il est l'auteur de nombreuses statues d'athlètes, la plus connue étant le Discobole.
Myron è il nome dell’olio sacro utilizzato nei riti di iniziazione cristiana, quali il battesimo, cresima e l’ordine del sacerdozio (per il rito romano). Nelle tradizioni orientali viene preparato esclusivamente dal Patriarca, che ha il compito di seguire tutta la preparazione fino alla consacrazione.

Myron was one of the greatest sculptors of Early Classical Greek sculpture. He was famed for his sculptures of powerful athletes and life-like animals. He produced mainly bronze sculpture and was considered a versatile and innovative artist in his time.
