Sam "Sluggo" Phipps (born on October 1st, 1953) is an American saxophone player, best known for being a member of the new wave band Oingo Boingo.
FACT SHEET. Born 1953 October 1 Los Angeles California. Studied piano (reluctantly) at age six. Played clarinet, french horn, eventually stuck with trombone through fifth grade. Picked up alto sax in the sixth grade, hoping to join a surf/rock band. Played tenor sax in a blues band in high school.
