Mathias Haydn (31 January 1699 – 12 September 1763) was the father of two famous composers, Joseph and Michael Haydn. He worked as a wheelwright in the Austrian village of Rohrau, where he also served as Marktrichter, an office akin to village mayor.

Haydn nacque da famiglia di modeste condizioni nel villaggio austriaco di Rohrau, vicino al confine ungherese. Suo padre, Mathias, era mastro carraio e per qualche tempo ricoprì l’incarico di Marktrichter (sindaco del villaggio), sua madre era cuoca nel castello dei Conti di Harrach.

His father was Mathias Haydn, a wheelwright who also served as "Marktrichter", or marketplace supervisor. Haydn's mother Maria, née Koller, had worked as a cook in the palace of Aloys Thomas Raimund, Count von Harrach, the presiding aristocrat of Rohrau.
