John Paul II paid another visit to the Jagiellonian University during his sixth pastoral visit to Poland. On 8 June 1997 he met with the rectors of Polish higher education institutions in St. Anne's Collegiate Church to mark the 600th anniversary of the JU Faculty of Theology.

The Pontifical University of John Paul II (Polish: Uniwersytet Papieski Jana Pawła II w Krakowie) is an academic institution located in Kraków, Poland, that offers graduate degrees in theology, philosophy, and church history. It derived from the theology faculty of Jagiellonian University established in 1397.
The Jagiellonian University was ranked highest amongst Polish higher education institutions in the Center for World University Rankings 2024 (CWUR). It is closely followed by the University of Warsaw and AGH University of Science and Technology.
