Biografia. Figlia di immigrati polacchi, iniziò la sua carriera cinematografica alla fine degli anni sessanta ed è principalmente nota per aver recitato nel film Il cacciatore (1978) di Michael Cimino . Durante la sua carriera l'attrice ebbe problemi di peso, arrivando a pesare fino a 250 chili.

Born the eldest of four children to Polish-Jewish immigrants on March 30, 1929, Brooklyn's Shirley made her stage debut in 1955 and gained experience as a member of New York's experimental La Mama, Caffe Cino and Living Theatre companies.
