David Tress is a British painter noted particularly for his deeply personal interpretations of landscapes in and around his home in Pembrokeshire, southwest Wales.

David Tress was born in London in 1955 and grew up there, showing an early interest in painting, drawing and natural history. After studying science with. biology at A-level, he changed direction and spent a year at Harrow College of Art, before taking a Fine. Art degree course at Trent Polytechnic.
David Tress. Widely regarded as one of Britain’s most inventive landscape painters, Tress moves beyond a landscape's immediate appearance and evokes a state of mind: a sense of self in relation to place, its primordial history, and the wild, cyclical rhythms of the seasons and elements.

Born in 1955 in London, Tress studied at Harrow College of Art and Trent Bridge Polytechnic, Nottingham. In 1976 he moved to Pembrokeshire. He taught history of art at University College of Wales Aberystwyth and since the 1980s has earned his living as an artist.
