Biografia. Augusto era il settimo figlio di Enrico III di Brunswick-Lüneburg. Dopo complessi negoziati e grazie all'intervento dell'imperatore Ferdinando II d'Asburgo, venne stabilito che egli avrebbe ereditato il principato di Wolfenbüttel, il cui ultimo reggente era morto nel 1634.

Augustus II (10 April 1579 – 17 September 1666), called the Younger (German: August der Jüngere), a member of the House of Welf was Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg. In the estate division of the House of Welf of 1635, he received the Principality of Wolfenbüttel which he ruled until his death.
