10 mag 2024 · In 1962 the gallery opened a major addition, designed by Gordon Bunshaft and donated by the Seymour H. Knox Foundation, and took the name Albright-Knox Art Gallery. In 2019 the museum began a nearly four-year renovation and expansion that included a new building designed by Shohei Shigematsu.
The Albright-Knox Art Gallery is the institution chiefly responsible for turning the city of Buffalo into an unlikely destination for avant-garde cultural events and art. In the 1960s, Gordon Smith and Seymour Knox revitalized the gallery, turning it into a significant center for contemporary art, beginning with Abstract Expressionism.
