Chris Mars (born April 26, 1961) is an American painter and musician. He was the drummer for the seminal Minneapolis-based alternative rock band The Replacements from 1979 to 1990; he later joined the informal supergroup Golden Smog before beginning a solo career.

Interview with Chris Mars. In addition to his painting, Mars is an accomplished musician. He released four solo albums (on Polygram and Bar None) subsequent to his tenure as drummer in The Replacements, a band he helped found in 1979 with Bob Stinson, Tommy Stinson and Paul Westerberg.
Chris Mars - About. Born and raised in London, Chris studied piano, guitar and vocals from the age of 6. At age 18 he left school and began playing music in night clubs and bars around London where he met up with 80's chart band "A Flock of Seagulls". He joined them as keyboard player and backing vocalist on their USA and Canadian tour in 1986.
