Jefferson Davis nacque il 3 Giugno 1808 nella parte della Christian County, Kentucky, che venne poi rinominata Todd County. Suo nonno era un colono proveniente dal Galles, che visse prevalentemente in Virginia e in Maryland dove diede pubblicamente importanti aiuti alle colonie del sud.
