Emily Anne Thornberry (born 27 July 1960) is a British politician who has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Islington South and Finsbury since 2005. A member of the Labour Party, she has served as Shadow Attorney General for England and Wales since 2021, and previously from 2011 to 2014.
Emily joined the Labour Party when she was 17, motivated by her experiences being raised by her mother, a single parent living on a council estate. She has lived in Islington for the last 27 years and was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Islington South and Finsbury on 5 May 2005.
Since first being elected in 2005, Emily has been re-elected four times. She has campaigned tirelessly on issues of great importance to the community of Islington South and Finsbury, including the housing crisis, the climate emergency, and social equality.
