William R. Tolbert, Jr., an ordained Baptist pastor and former President of the Baptist World Alliance, was President Tubman’s modest (‘invisible’) Vice-President for nearly 20 years. He succeeded President Tubman (1944-1971) on July 23, 1971 after he had died in a London clinic.
William Richard Tolbert, Jr. ( 13 mai 1913 – 12 avril 1980) était un homme politique libérien, président de la république du Liberia de 1971 à sa mort en 1980. Pasteur baptiste, il a été président de l’ Alliance baptiste mondiale de 1965 à 1970. Il fut aussi président de l’ OUA entre 1979 et 1980.
