23 giu 2021 · Carol Ruth Silver (b. 1938) responded to CORE’s 1961 radio call for freedom riders to challenge segregation on interstate buses. She was the only woman on her multiracial freedom-riding bus. Arrested in Jackson, Mississippi, on June 7, 1961, Silver spent the next forty days in jail at the infamous Parchman Prison.
