Marshal Pierre Riel, marquis de Beurnonville (1752-1821) was an important figure early in the French revolution, fighting in a huge number of battles early in the Revolutionary Wars. Beurnonville had originally been intended for the Church, but he chose to enter the French army instead.
Pierre Riel est né le 10 mai 1752, d'un père charron. Destiné à l'état ecclésiastique, il s'oriente vers la carrière militaire. Il s’engage comme volontaire au régiment d’Ile-de-France, combat dans l’escadre du bailli de Suffren, fait campagne aux Indes.
