William Sterling Parsons (26 November 1901 – 5 December 1953) was an American naval officer who worked as an ordnance expert on the Manhattan Project during World War II. He is best known for being the weaponeer on the Enola Gay, the aircraft which dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, in 1945.

28 ago 2023 · Beginnings. William Sterling Parsons was born in Chicago in November 1901 but grew up in Fort Sumner, New Mexico after his father moved the family there in 1909. He was largely homeschooled although he attended the local elementary school for six years starting at age 8. He skipped grades and caught up to and passed his contemporaries.
Rear Admiral William Sterling "Deak" Parsons died on 5 December 1953 of a heart attack while being examined by doctors at Bethesda Naval Hospital, MD. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA, alongside his daughter, Hannah.
