Wolfgang von Anhalt-Köthen (1492–1566) Wolfgang, Prince of Anhalt-Köthen (1 August 1492, in Köthen – 23 March 1566, in Zerbst), was a German prince of the House of Ascania and ruler of the principality of Anhalt-Köthen. He was one of the earliest Protestant rulers in the Holy Roman Empire.
Wolfgang von Anhalt-Köthen was an advocate of the Reformation and contributed significantly to its spread. He was born in Köthen in 1492 and took over the government of his principality at the age of 16. In 1521, at the Diet of Worms, he met Martin Luther, who immediately won him over to his convictions.
