Safiya Zaghloul (Arabic: صفية زغلول / ALA-LC: Ṣafīyah Zaghlūl; née Fahmy; 1878–12 January 1946) was an Egyptian political activist. She was among the early leaders of the Wafd Party. Background. Zaghloul was born in 1878. Her father, Mostafa Fahmy Pasha, was the seventh prime minister of Egypt.
8 feb 2023 · Born in 1878, Safiya was the wife of Egypt’s revolutionary icon, Saad Zaghloul, leader of the 1919 revolution and leader of the nationalist Wafd Party. After marrying him, she became popularly known as Safiya Zaghloul and accompanied him in all his political activity.
Safeya played a significant role, taking up the mantle of the revolution after her husband, Saad Zaghloul, was exiled to Seychelles. She actively participated in the liberation of Egyptian women. Following her husband's exile, Safeya continued her nationalist activities for twenty years, refusing to abandon her political work even after warnings from Prime Minister Ismail Pasha Sedki.
