George W. Romney was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, on July 8, 1907, and served as governor of Michigan from 1963 to 1969. He was also a candidate for the Republican nomination for President in 1968. President Richard M. Nixon appointed Romney secretary of housing and urban development in 1969, and Romney remained in that post until 1973.
