Edward Stanley, 14th earl of Derby was an English statesman, important as leader of the Conservative Party during the long period 1846–68, thrice prime minister, and one of England’s greatest parliamentary orators; nevertheless, he has no great political reputation.

Deputato whig dal 1820, fautore del Reform bill, nel 1833-34 fu ministro delle Colonie e fece approvare l'abolizione della schiavitù. Passato poi al partito conservatore (1834) per un disaccordo sulla politica irlandese, fu ancora (dal 1841) ministro delle Colonie.
Edward Henry Stanley, 15th Earl of Derby, KG, PC, FRS (21 July 1826 – 21 April 1893; known as Lord Stanley from 1851 to 1869) was a British statesman. He served as Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs twice, from 1866 to 1868 and from 1874 to 1878, and also twice as Colonial Secretary in 1858 and from 1882 to 1885.
