Biografia. Discendente di un'antica famiglia protestante tedesca, suo avo era Johannes Piscator (27 marzo 1546 – 26 luglio 1625) noto teologo che tradusse la bibbia in lingua tedesca nel 1600. [2] Piscator, il secondo da sinistra, fotografato assieme alla sua famiglia nel 1906.

Regista teatrale (Ulm, Wetzlar, 1893 - Starnberg, Baviera, 1966). Attivo alla Berliner Volksbühne (1923-27) e al Theater am Nollendorfplatz, detto Piscatorbühne (1927-29); abbandonò nel 1931 la Germania e dopo una lunga permanenza in Russia (1931-36) fu a Parigi e a New York (dove ebbe come allievi A. Miller e T. Williams).
Erwin Piscator nacque a Ulm nel 1893; regista teatrale e produttore, lavorò per il Teatro Proletario (1920-21), il Teatro Centrale (1923-24) e la Volksbühne (1924-27).
