Johannes Bugenhagen (24 June 1485 – 20 April 1558), also called Doctor Pomeranus by Martin Luther, was a German theologian and Lutheran priest who introduced the Protestant Reformation in the Duchy of Pomerania and Denmark in the 16th century.
BUGENHAGEN, Johannes (Pomeranus, doctor Pommer) L'amico più intimo e il compagno di lotta di Lutero. Nacque il 24 giugno 1485 a Wollin (Pomerania), studiò all'università di Greifswald (1502-1504), fu insegnante apprezzato a Treptow, divenne sacerdote nel 1509 e professore di Sacra Scrittura nel convento dei premonstratensi a Belbuck nel 1517.
Umanista, ammiratore di Erasmo, fu dal 1522 uno dei protagonisti più efficaci e più attivi del luteranesimo (nel Brunswick, ad Amburgo, a Lubecca, in Pomerania): fu vicino a Giovanni Federico di Sassonia, e passò (1537-39) in Danimarca, per l'istituzione di una Chiesa riformata.
