In the late eighteenth century, Catholic priest Johann Joseph Gassner (1727-1779) discovered that he had extraordinary powers of exorcism. Deciding that demons were responsible for most human ailments, he healed thousands, rich and poor, Protestant and Catholic.
Biographie. Nach Studien in Prag und Innsbruck wurde G. 1750 zum Priester geweiht. Als Seelsorger wirkte er in Dalaas und Klösterle. Nach 4jähriger Tätigkeit im Bistum Regensburg starb er als Dekan in Pondorf. - Berühmt wurde G. durch die sonderbare Art, wie er Kranke heilen zu können glaubte.
