Benjamin Jowett (/ ˈ dʒ oʊ ɪ t /, modern variant / ˈ dʒ aʊ ɪ t /; 15 April 1817 – 1 October 1893) was an English writer and classical scholar. Additionally, he was an administrative reformer in the University of Oxford , theologian, Anglican cleric , and translator of Plato and Thucydides . [4]
