Schaumburg-Lippe. Biography. He was born in Düsseldorf, the second son of Philipp-Ernst, Prince of Schaumburg-Lippe (1928-2003) and his wife Baroness Eva-Benita von Tiele-Winckler (1927-2013). [1] At the time of the death of his grandfather, Prince Wolrad in 1962, Alexander was unlikely to succeed to the headship of the princely house.

Schaumburg-Lippe, also called Lippe-Schaumburg, was created as a county in 1647, became a principality in 1807 and a free state in 1918, and was until 1946 a small state in Germany, located in the present day state of Lower Saxony, with its capital at Bückeburg and an area of 340 km 2 (131 sq mi) and over 40,000 inhabitants.
