Luigi Ernesto di Brunswick-Lüneburg-Bevern è stato un Feldmaresciallo del Sacro Romano Impero e della Repubblica delle Sette Province Unite. Dal 1751 al 1766 fu Capitano-Generale dei Paesi Bassi, dove era conosciuto come Duca di Brunswick o Duca di Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel.
La di-sputa fra il nuovo duca e l'arcivescovo Gerardo II di Amburgo-Brema per il possesso della contea di Stade si ricompose con la rinuncia guelfa nel 1236; nel mandato per i ministeriali di Stade, il nuovo ducato è denominato per la prima volta ducato di Brunswick (ducatus de Brunswic).

The Duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg (German: Herzogtum Braunschweig und Lüneburg), or more properly the Duchy of Brunswick and Lüneburg, was a historical duchy that existed from the late Middle Ages to the Late Modern era within the Holy Roman Empire, until the year of its dissolution.
Louis Rudolph (German: Ludwig Rudolf; 22 July 1671 – 1 March 1735), a member of the House of Welf, was Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg and ruling Prince of Wolfenbüttel from 1731 until his death. Since 1707, he ruled as an immediate Prince of Blankenburg.
