George Mercer Dawson CMG FRS FRSC (August 1, 1849 – March 2, 1901) was a Canadian geologist and surveyor. He performed many early explorations in western North America and compiled numerous records of the native peoples.

George Mercer Dawson, 1849-1901, was born in Pictou, Nova Scotia, and educated at McGill University and the Royal School of Mines, London, as a geologist. He was a member of the International Boundary Commission which surveyed the 49th Parallel from Lake of the Woods to the Rockies, 1873-1875.
