Born Pierrette Marie-Clotilde Schwartz (Schwartz being her mother's name) in Châteauroux, Indre, she is perhaps best known for her 1999 novel L'Inceste ( Incest) which recounts an incestuous relationship with her father. Christine Angot a remporté le prix Médicis 2021 pour son livre auto-fictionnel «Le Voyage dans l’Est» dans lequel elle revient sur l’inceste dont elle a été victime adolescente. L'auteure a déjà évoqué ce drame à plusieurs reprises dans son oeuvre littéraire, notamment dans «L'Interview» en 1995.
