The eccentric owner of the Hall, Lord Flamborough (Leslie Phillips) lives in a train on his own branch line, while letting the government pay for the upkeep of his ancestral home. The three-person research unit enjoys running the stately home and everyone is content with the status quo.
Love on a Branch Line. Lionel almost sabotages the cricket match when he lures Jasper into the "dungeon" for a drinking binge. Matilda comes down the chimney of Jasper's bedroom and tries to seduce him.
