At home recuperating from an operation to remove an ovarian cyst, Crown Prosecutor Helen West begins to review files that have accumulated during her absence. She focuses on the case of Margaret Carlton, who died unexpectedly.
She has her own troubles with her ex-husband, a cop with drinking problems, wanting to have more time with their son. Seemingly accidental deaths lead Helen West to probe further than the police, even her boy-friend, think is warranted.
