Rosalie Mackenzie Poe, née Rosalie Poe, was the estranged sister of Edgar Allan Poe. Rosalie, born approximately December 1810 in Norfolk, Virginia, was the last of Elizabeth Arnold Poe’s children (Mabbott 520).
It's not generally known, but Rosalie Poe, the only sister of Edgar Allan Poe, was born here in 1810. Rosa, as she was familiarly known, may have been only Poe's half sister - which serves to introduce a bit of early 19th century American theatrical gossip.
Rosalie Mackenzie Poe (1810-1874), born Rosalie Poe, was best known as the younger sister of American author Edgar Allan Poe. After the deaths of their parents, the children were split up. While Henry lived with family in Baltimore, Maryland, Rosalie and Edgar were placed in the care of adopted families.

Edgar Allan Poe, however, clearly names Rosalie Poe as his sister and the daughter of David Poe Jr. In an 1835 letter from Edgar Allan Poe, he wrote, "My father David died in the second year of my age, and when my sister Rosalie was an infant in arms". [7]
