Eventually, the purpose-built Meadway School (The Meadway, Tilehurst, Reading, Berkshire, RG30 4NN) was opened to students on Tuesday 5th September 1972, barely three weeks after the builders had completed and left site.

The former Meadway School pupil joined in 1979. Sir Kenneth Branagh is one of Reading’s greatest sons, and here he is as a fresh-faced teenager off to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

Our programmes support the empowerment of young people to overcome the barriers which are preventing them from being able to engage in mainstream education. The Pavilion is a stepping stone which provides young people with opportunities to reinvent themselves and develop the confidence to be successful in the future.
Meadway is a site for young people who have been out of mainstream school for some time as a result of medical or mental health challenges. We offer a stepping stone that helps young people to reintegrate into their schools or support them to make the transition into a new setting.
