John Buchan (1875-1940) was one of Scotland’s most critically and commercially successful novelists, while playing a major role in public life both as a publisher and a politician. Beginnings. Buchan was born in Perth, but moved in early infancy to Pathhead, Fife, where his father had been appointed Free Church minister.
